How It All Began

Welcome to Norma’s, a testament to the unwavering spirit and perseverance of one remarkable woman, Norma. Our restaurant is not just a place to enjoy delicious food; it is a celebration of the incredible journey that brought us here. Norma, our founder and the heart and soul of Norma’s, grew up in humble beginnings in El Salvador. From a young age, she learned the value of hard work and determination. Even as a little girl, Norma took to the streets, selling bread, eggs, and limes, anything she could find, to make ends meet. Her unwavering spirit and strong work ethic led her to work in various homes, where she cooked, cleaned, and cared for others in exchange for food and meager earnings.

Norma's dedication and resilience shone through as she tirelessly washed clothes by hand and ensured that the homes she tended to were spotless. In the mid-1980s, amidst civil unrest in El Salvador, Norma embarked on a new chapter, immigrating to the United States. Fate brought her together with her then husband, who had also left his homeland in pursuit of a better life. Settling in Los Angeles, they carried their dreams, hopes, and love for each other. In 1994, seeking a peaceful place to raise their children, Norma and her husband chose to make Pauls Valley, Oklahoma their home. Norma, a devoted mother, dedicated herself to raising her three sons and daughter, while her entrepreneurial spirit continued to burn brightly. She seized every opportunity to engage in business ventures, from selling Mary Kay and Jafra products to offering her services as a babysitter and cleaning homes. However, her passion truly ignited when she began selling her beloved Pupusas.

In 2005, facing personal challenges, Norma's ex-husband bestowed upon her a food trailer as a beacon of hope and encouragement to pursue her dreams and fight for the American dream she held so dear. This gesture marked the turning point in her life. Though the road was hard, with more downs than ups, Norma persevered, demonstrating a relentless pursuit of her goals. From that single food truck, Norma's vision expanded. She grew her business, acquiring a second truck and eventually realizing her dream of opening Norma’s Restaurant in 2017. Today, our restaurant stands as a testament to the love, resilience, and unyielding spirit that forged its very existence. Now that the restaurant is established we work on maintaining our culture through our Values.

While working on the building of the success of our restaurant, we expanded into catering to offer our unique and vibrant Salvadorian flavors to a wider audience.
